The FLOODTRAIN training programme will be designed as online courses for professionals in restoration, water management and environmental planning. It focuses on the practical challenges of restoring floodplains in Europe. The programme covers ecological processes, restoration methods, policy frameworks and decision-making tools. It combines scientific foundations with real-world applications and examples from across Europe.
The FLOODTRAIN training programme will be integrated into the learning environment of the MERLIN Academy. The training is modular and flexible. Participants can learn at their own pace and apply the content directly to their work. The exact content will be discussed and refined in the first months of the project.
Participants will obtain a certification as Floodplain Restoration Manager. The certification will be developed with stakeholders and reflects the skills needed for professional restoration practice.
The MERLIN Academy
The MERLIN Academy is an online learning platform that provides knowledge and tools for freshwater and wetland restoration, consisting of four main parts: the Learning Modules, the Knowledge Centre. the MERLIN Webinars and the MERLIN Podcasts. It supports capacity building by offering resources on restoration methods, governance, financing and monitoring for practitioners, researchers and policymakers.
FLOODTRAIN builds on this foundation by specifically extending the Learning Modules with new, practice-oriented training content for floodplain restoration, while the other three parts remain as they are.
